It’s Monday morning.

I get to the office at 8.30am (because I’m an over-achieving legend), plonk my bag down, set up at my desk (yes I have my own desk, fancy right?) and go and have a natter with a few of the other early birds.

Then it’s time for a coffee. I didn’t love it at first (coffee snob), but once I found the steamer function I realised I prefer it to the nespresso machine I have at home. Plus I enjoy the added sentimental value of drinking it from the secret santa mug a colleague bought me for Christmas. I did get some socks too, but they still haven’t made it further than my desk drawer (sorry Amy).

9am comes and by now the office is getting into full swing. Bit of music on the radio, finding out how people’s weekends were, who was hungover, who took the kids to a farm — all that life-affirming stuff. Every now and again a juicy story (looking at you Anne-Marie) and some tasty goodies brought in from someone’s trip abroad.

Then it’s down to business. Meeting rooms fill up and empty again and if you’re important enough you get invited into one. The flow of the busy office is both energising and familiar. Soothing and motivating.

Before I know it it’s lunch time. There goes the Tax team heading out for a cheeky lunch and high fiving completing all those returns filed without penalty. I heat up my food and relax, chat to whoever else is at the kitchen area and refuel – after all we are Consulting Athletes.

The afternoon comes and low and behold Pria has brought an assortment of pancakes and toppings to celebrate Shrove Tuesday (on a Monday yeah yeah). Everyone digs in and there’s laughs aplenty. A heated debate over the legitimacy of the maple syrup but all was resolved in the end.

Time ticks on, and before you know it it’s drinks at Catcher in the Rye only 20 paces away (yes, let’s ignore the fact that this is usually on a Thursday), and the Big Not-So-Bad Bosses Adam and Mitch are treating everyone to a tipple of their choice. Or two. Depends how generous Mitch is feeling (which is usually quite a bit). It’s around the time Chenji is having us in stitches with anecdotes, cold drink in hand, that I realise I get paid to do all of this. And even better – tomorrow I get to lie in and stay in my pyjamas all day (from the bottom half down) because its hybrid working!

I get to take the dog for a walk, enjoy some fresh air, make a half-decent lunch and crack on with the rest of my day.

Next week it’s my birthday, which means I get a paid day off.

Think I might go into the office anyhow because I miss everyone………lol just kidding, the only decision I need to make is whether future me wants to deal with a hangover or take the kids to the farm for a day in the sunshine.
